Living in Canada

St. Thomas, Ontario

St. Thomas, a charming city nestled in Southwestern Ontario, offers international students a comfortable living experience with many wonderful amenities. With a welcoming community, affordable cost of living, and easy access to nature, St. Thomas provides the perfect blend of urban convenience and rural tranquility. Students can explore the picturesque trails of Pinafore Park, indulge in local culinary delights, and experience the vibrant arts and culture scene. As a gateway to Toronto and Niagara Falls, St. Thomas offers endless opportunities for adventure and exploration.

Finding Accommodations

Maple Wings Flight Centre encourages international students to explore the diverse housing options available in St. Thomas. From cozy apartments to shared houses, students can find comfortable and affordable accommodation to suit their needs and budget. We recommend utilizing online platforms and local real estate agencies to connect with landlords and potential roommates. Additionally, many universities and colleges have dedicated housing offices that can provide valuable guidance and resources.

It is the responsibility of the student to find housing and transportation while attending the school. The
Flight Centre has a limited number of accommodation spaces available to international students on a first come basis if spots are available. General Public Transit also does not bring students directly to the airport grounds at this time. Our students that are most successful tend to be those that are able to secure their own car and obtain a Canadian drivers License. Being punctual for your lessons is important for efficient training.

Health Insurance

It is strongly encouraged that international students purchase their own health insurance as soon as possible. You WILL be required to have Health Insurance prior to beginning your Commercial/Flight Instructor Program. Many of our students use Guard.Me, however you are not obligated to purchase health insurance from this particular company.
