Renters
Congratulations! You have your pilots licence and would like to fly with us.
MWFC must collect some documentation, such as your licence and medical, to ensure that you have met currency requirements for both Transport Canada and MWFC insurance requirements. This requires that you first complete the Rental Registration Form. A check-ride with one of our authorized instructors otherwise known as a Check on Type (C.O.T) flight will be required. Successful completion of a C.O.T will allow you to rent our aircraft subject to aircraft availability.
Pre-requisites
- current medical for your licence
- Aviation Document Booklet (A.D.B) must be valid
Check On Type (C.O.T) Requirements
Pass a C.O.T with a MWFC instructor in order to demonstrate
- a proper pre-flight, planning and taxi
- a safe maneuvering of the aircraft during airwork exercises
- proper crosswind and landing techniques
- an understanding of current Transport Canada airlaw and airspace requirements relevant to CYQS
- proper radio use and etiquette
Privileges
Rent appropriate aircraft of type from MWFC subject to our school's pilot currency and insurance requirements
- 30 days for pilots with less than 100 Pilot-In-Command (PIC) hours
- 45 days for pilots with more than 100, but less than 500 PIC hours
- 60 days for pilots with more than 500 PIC hours
Currency is tracked by MWFC dispatch and pilots over their applicable currency period may be subject to a circuit check or C.O.T depending on lapsed time. All bookings must be done through dispatch directly.
Resources
Below are website links that Maple Wings Flight Centre believes may be helpful for our students and pilots in general. These resources include government documents related to flight training, airspace, weather, and communications, intended for study purposes. We've also included links to information from the Ontario Career Colleges, relevant to our students, along with general financial resources. Here's a link to the weather at CYQS - St. Thomas Airport, right now!
Transport Canada
Transport Canada is responsible for transportation policies and programs to promote safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible transportation. Transport Canada is the governing body for everything aviation and the operations within including pilot and personnel licencing, aircraft and airport operations, drones, incident reporting, air travel and airworthiness. Below are useful website links to current regulations and publications issued by Transport Canada that are not only useful for study, but also for review by current pilots.
Nav Canada
Nav Canada is responsible for providing a wide range of air navigation services, including air traffic control, flight information, weather briefings, and airport advisory services. The organization oversees 18 million square kilometers of Canadian airspace, as well as the North Atlantic oceanic airspace under Canadian jurisdiction.
Their services include aeronautical communications, information and radio navigation, aviation weather reporting, emergency assistance, and the maintenance of safe, efficient air traffic operations. NAV CANADA also publishes a variety of free resources to help pilots familiarize themselves with proper phraseology and procedures.
Pilots can access online weather briefing tools essential for safe flight planning, both within local airport areas and across broader airspace. Additionally, NAV CANADA is responsible for the creation and maintenance of all navigational charts used in both Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations.
